The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is a historical fiction novel by John Boyne. The story is narrated by Bruno, a young boy who is the son of a high-ranking Nazi officer. Bruno's family is forced to leave their comfortable home in Berlin and move to a house called "Out-With" in Poland, where Bruno's father is tasked with overseeing a concentration camp.

Bruno becomes more comfortable at Out-With as he builds a friendship with Shmuel. Shmuel tells him he's Jewish.
Bruno asks her if she agrees with his feelings about Out-With. Some historians believe that fictional stories based on historical events, especially ones as horrible and important as the Holocaust, can perpetrate false narratives. Bruno was never heard from again. The Fury, Adolf Hitler comes over for dinner at their house and invites the family to come to live with him which is what leads them to move away from Berlin.
