Inez Prosser was a pioneering African American psychologist and educator who made significant contributions to the field of psychology and to the education of African American students in the early 20th century.
Born in 1894 in Waco, Texas, Prosser was the first African American woman to earn a PhD in psychology. She received her degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1933, after completing her dissertation on the intelligence of African American children. Prosser's research focused on the ways in which societal and cultural factors can influence the development and intelligence of children, and she argued that intelligence is not fixed and can be developed through education and experiences.
