The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is the second installment in the Hunger Games trilogy, following the events of The Hunger Games. The story takes place in a dystopian society called Panem, where the Capitol, a wealthy and technologically advanced city, holds annual Hunger Games in which one boy and one girl from each of the twelve districts must fight to the death in a controlled arena. The Hunger Games are meant to punish the districts for a failed rebellion and serve as a reminder of the Capitol's power.
The main character, Katniss Everdeen, is a 16-year-old girl from District 12 who became the victor of the previous Hunger Games. Along with her fellow tribute and love interest, Peeta Mellark, they return home as heroes, but are forced to go on a victory tour of the districts, where they are met with mixed reactions.
