We are not to seek fame, or prideful earnings, or wealth, or status, or the pleasures that can bring ruin. It makes the reading frustratingly choppy in what appears to be a failed attempt at making the book readable for poor readers.
And all boasting - all exultation - should be boasting in the cross. My recommendation is enter with an open mind, finish the book, verifying or contradicting what you have read with scripture and arrive at the conclusion God has for you; you will find answers, you will spend time in the word of God, and you will grow closer to the Saviour. John Piper constantly talks about how his life is not a waste because he preaches and writes books amongst other spiritual tasks.
