Carl Panzram was a serial killer who operated in the United States in the early 20th century. During his career, he is believed to have murdered at least 21 people, although the true number of his victims may be much higher. Panzram's victims were predominantly young men, whom he would lure with promises of work or other opportunities, only to brutally attack and kill them.
One of Panzram's most notorious murders was that of a young sailor named Robert Warnke. Warnke had responded to an advertisement placed by Panzram in a newspaper, offering work as a laborer on a farm. When Warnke arrived at the farm, Panzram tied him up and savagely beat him with a hammer, before strangling him to death. Panzram later boasted about the murder to a cellmate, saying that he had "enjoyed every minute of it."
Another victim of Panzram's was a young boy named Eugene Shields. Shields was just 10 years old when he was brutally murdered by Panzram. According to accounts, Panzram had lured Shields into a cabin, where he strangled him to death before dumping his body into a river.
Despite the brutality of his crimes, Panzram seemed to take no remorse for his actions. In fact, he seemed to relish in the suffering of his victims, writing in his journal that he "hated the whole damned human race" and that he "wanted to kill as many of them as [he] could."
The full extent of Panzram's crimes may never be known, as he admitted to killing many more people in addition to those for which he was convicted. His legacy is one of violence and destruction, and his victims will always be remembered as innocent lives cut short by his depraved actions.
