April Morning is a historical novel by Howard Fast, set during the American Revolution. The story follows the experiences of a young man named Adam Cooper, who is coming of age during a time of great turmoil and conflict in the colonies.

Adam is the son of Moses Cooper, a farmer and blacksmith in a small town in Massachusetts. Despite his father's opposition, Adam is determined to join the fight against the British and become a man. When the Lexington Alarm sounds, signaling the start of the war, Adam sets out to join the local militia.

As he marches off to war, Adam is filled with a sense of purpose and patriotism. However, he quickly discovers that war is not the romanticized adventure he had imagined it to be. He is forced to witness the horrors of battle and the cruelty of his fellow soldiers. He also struggles with the moral dilemma of fighting against his own countrymen, who are loyal to the crown.

Despite these challenges, Adam remains determined to serve his country and prove himself as a man. He takes part in several key battles, including the Siege of Boston and the Battle of Bunker Hill. Along the way, he meets a variety of interesting characters, including his mentor, Captain Jack, and his love interest, Mary Cummings.

As the war rages on, Adam is forced to confront the harsh realities of conflict and the sacrifices that must be made for the greater good. He is also faced with the difficult decision of whether to follow his heart or his duty, as he grapples with his feelings for Mary and his duty to serve his country.

In the end, Adam emerges from the war a changed man, having learned valuable lessons about duty, sacrifice, and what it means to be a man. April Morning is a powerful tale of courage, love, and the importance of standing up for one's beliefs.
